In a late summer day, on the lawns of Renon, we had fun while recreating the atmosphere of Andrea Kowch’s works.

That was a tribute to the talent of a young American artist that had inspired skillful hands and fancy mind of an outstanding hair-stylist. All this is about the bucolic symbolism.

The last days of August in Bolzano are often full of first signs of autumn’s arrival. Even an insignificant rainstorm can lower the temperature, forcing us to pull our blankets out of the closet.

Undoubtedly, those who still hoped to enjoy some dip in a pool, would remain frustrated. But if you have in mind realization of a photo shoot inspired by an artist who’s a lover of cold rarefied atmospheres, then the last days of August in Bolzano are ideal for you.

Indeed, some months ago, while surfing the web at one of my rare free moments, I came across Andrea Kowch’s works. This young painter and illustrator from Michigan is able to catch the American rural spirit to further adopt it within her images, distinguishable by their restrained dynamism.

Thus, while looking on these sentimental images, a splendid photo shoot idea came to my mind — to reproduce some of Andrea’s most impressive works by means of photography, paying special attention to the characters’ hairstyles in our interpretation.

For Monday, August 26, weather forecasts had announced rain in the morning and sunny intervals in the afternoon — just perfect to carry out our photoshoot. So, early in the morning, the whole team gathered at the salon to prepare the models. In the meanwhile, guys from Genetica Multimedia had reached the location to make arrangements on the set.

The location was fantastic: a historic farm in the area of Longostagno, on Renon — one of the mountains surrounding Bolzano. Here, among all those barns of the 50s, shabby carts and in a wonderful frescoed “Stube” — the magic was born. The works were going so well that, at some moment, we had an illusion of being in Michigan for real.
