ARTIST STATEMENT
In the American realist tradition, my current body of work portrays women as objects of cultural aspiration, from a female perspective, juxtaposed against a background derived from iconic Art images.I am interested in painting a certain time in a woman’s life, portraying youth and strength, especially evident in her gaze towards the viewer. My work is evolving into a greater narrative, concentrating on adding more layers in each new painting, while also increasing the complexity of the painting.I am painting the uniquely American culture that I grew up with, which allows me to not only pay homage to my favorite artists, but to paint in different styles, contrasting figure with background, all the while maintaining a certain sense of irony. I believe my paintings invoke a style that is an accurate assessment of an era, while remaining current today.
